Nowadays, cocoa is mainly produced in Ghana and Ivory coast, but ours comes from Dominican Republic. Long before it was introduced in West Africa, Aztecs and Mayans revered it for its medicinal properties and as a ceremonial drink.
And while it is of course most commonly consumed in the form of chocolate, it is also a nice touch in savory dishes such as chili’s, mole sauce, or stews.
